Genesis 35:1 God said to Ya`akov, "Arise, go up to Beit-El, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esav your brother."
Genesis 35:2 Then Ya`akov said to his household, and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.
Genesis 35:3 Let us arise, and go up to Beit-El. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went."
Genesis 35:4 They gave to Ya`akov all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Ya`akov hid them under the oak which was by Shekhem.
Genesis 35:5 They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn't pursue the sons of Ya`akov.
Genesis 35:6 So Ya`akov came to Luz (that is, Beit-El), which is in the land of Kena`an, he and all the people who were with him.
Genesis 35:7 He built an altar there, and called the place El-Beit-El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
Genesis 35:8 Devorah, Rivka's nurse, died, and she was buried below Beit-El under the oak; and the name of it was called Allon-Bakhut.
Genesis 35:9 God appeared to Ya`akov again, when he came from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.
Genesis 35:10 God said to him, "Your name is Ya`akov. Your name shall not be Ya`akov any more, but your name will be Yisra'el." He named him Yisra'el.
Genesis 35:11 God said to him, "I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your body.
Genesis 35:12 The land which I gave to Avraham and Yitzchak, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land."
Genesis 35:13 God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.
Genesis 35:14 Ya`akov set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.
Genesis 35:15 Ya`akov called the name of the place where God spoke with him "Beit-El."
Genesis 35:16 They traveled from Beit-El. There was still some distance to come to Efrat, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.
Genesis 35:17 When she was in hard labor, the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for now you will have another son."
Genesis 35:18 It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Benoni, but his father named him Binyamin.
Genesis 35:19 Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Efrat (the same is Beit-Lechem).
Genesis 35:20 Ya`akov set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.
Genesis 35:21 Yisra'el traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of `Eder.
Genesis 35:22 It happened, while Yisra'el lived in that land, that Re'uven went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Yisra'el heard of it. Now the sons of Ya`akov were twelve.
Genesis 35:23 The sons of Le'ah: Re'uven (Ya`akov's firstborn), Shim`on, Levi, Yehudah, Yissakhar, and Zevulun.
Genesis 35:24 The sons of Rachel: Yosef and Binyamin.
Genesis 35:25 The sons of Bilhah (Rachel's handmaid): Dan and Naftali.
Genesis 35:26 The sons of Zilpah (Le'ah's handmaid): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Ya`akov, who were born to him in Paddan-Aram.
Genesis 35:27 Ya`akov came to Yitzchak his father, to Mamre, to Kiryat-Arba (which is Chevron), where Avraham and Yitzchak lived as foreigners.
Genesis 35:28 The days of Yitzchak were one hundred eighty years.
Genesis 35:29 Yitzchak gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esav and Ya`akov, his sons, buried him.
